Course DescriptionLinguistics 364 is an introductory course in general linguistics, which is the study of language and how human languages work. There are no prerequisites, and no foreign language study is necessary, although it is certainly helpful. We will study the sound system of English, comparing it to other languages, as well as word construction, word order and word/sentence meaning. In addition, we will look at how languages change through time, and investigate some of the psychological/biological aspects of language.
