Spanish Major/Minor

THE NEW SPANISH MAJOR

The non-teaching Spanish major consists of 32 credits starting with Spanish 222:

Spanish 322 Spanish VI Advanced Grammar and Composition
Spanish 341 Intro to Spanish Literature
Spanish 342 Modern Spanish Literature OR
Spanish 344 Modern Latin American Literature
Spanish 441 Medieval and Golden Age Literature OR
Spanish 443 Pre-Colombian/Colonial Literature OR
Spanish 494 Literature Seminar
Spanish 462 Spanish Linguistics
ELECTIVE:
(4 credits)
Spanish 262 Phonetics (1 credit)
Spanish 325 Conversation (1 credit)
Spanish 342 (if not taken above)
Spanish 344 (if not taken above)
Spanish 421 Spanish for Business (4 credits)
Spanish 441 (if not taken above)
Spanish 443 (if not taken above)
Spanish 494 (if not taken above)

Students may take Linguistics 364 (Intro to Descriptive Linguistics) instead of Spanish 462. Spanish 322 is required for Span 341; Spanish 341 is required for Spanish 342 and 344. Spanish 342 or 344 are required for Spanish 441, 443 and 499.

The Spanish teaching Major consists of 33 credits, starting with Spanish 222:

Spanish 322 Spanish VI Advanced Grammar and Composition (4)
Spanish 341 Intro to Literature (4)
Spanish 342 Modern Spanish Literature or (4)

Spanish 441 Medieval to Golden Age Literature (4)
Spanish 494 Literature Seminar (4)

Any course not taken above. Students may also get Practicum and Internship credits as electives.

In addition, the major requires Education 384 Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages. This requirement will not be waived if the student has taken another methods class for another major.
