Advanced Grammar, Composition, Literature and Culture at the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ).The courses offered will be a general course in Advanced Grammar and Composition (equivalent to either Sp. V or Sp. VI) and Studies in Hispanic Language and Literature, a culture class that will count as an elective (Sp.295) for the Spanish major or minor. Students will complete 8 credits for their major or minor in Spanish. Students who have completed Sp. IV at Hope will take Sp. V and obtain 4 credits; students who have completed Sp. V at Hope will take Sp. VI and obtain 4 credits. The grammar course will run through the months of May and June. Students must enroll for the two months in order to gain full credit. The advanced grammar course will be conducted by a professor from the University of Querétaro (UAQ). In addition, students will complete the culture class, Studies in Hispanic Language and Literature, during the month of May for 4 credits. The course will be conducted by Prof. Christine Swain from Hope College. Studies in Hispanic Language and Literature will meet from May to June (Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm) and the Advanced Grammar Classes will meet from May to July (Monday through Friday 12:30 to 2:30 pm). Specific travel and class dates TBA. Course descriptions: 321 Spanish V- A course designed to bring the student to a high-intermediate/low-advanced level of competency in all four skills as defined by the ACTFL Guidelines. Conducted entirely in Spanish. Prerequisite: Spanish 222, placement, or equivalent. 322 Spanish VI- This continuation of Spanish V is designed to bring the student to an advanced level of competency in all four skills as defined by the ACTFL Guidelines. Conducted entirely in Spanish. Prerequisite: Spanish 321 or equivalent. 295. Studies in Hispanic Language and Literature — A course
designed to develop grammar and conversational skills while learning
about Spanish as well as Latin American cultures. Costs for intensive language development assistance at the University of Querétaro (UAQ) for two months, including room and board, excursions, Querétaro’s tuition, and miscellaneous expenses are approximately $2,800.00.
