Alicia Curtis and Daniel Owens

The 2012 Student Servant Award recipients were honored at halftime of the Friday men's basketball game. Honored were Alicia Curtis and Daniel Owens who are pictured with Christopher Bohle, associate director of student life, and Steve VanderVeen, director of the Center for Faithful Leadership. The students were chosen by an independent committee representing campus and community members.

Alicia, a senior social work major from West Bloomfield, was a Nykerk 2015 Song Coach and works in the Events and Conference Office. She has been a volunteer mentor for teenage girls through Barnabas Ministries and has also volunteered at the Heartland of Holland Retirement home. "Alicia is a quiet servant leader who truly does not seek glory for herself." --Derek Emerson

Daniel, a senior history/political science major from Rocky River, Ohio, is a member of Mortar Board, the tennis team, and the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. He has been the project director for the BeHope Rwanda Project and served on the Critical Issues Symposium Planning Committee. "Daniel is that rare student who while excelling in his scholarly work makes certain that he also contributes to the well being of the community." -- Marc Baer
