Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Scholars Program in the Arts and Humanities

Deadline for Completed Applications: February 10, 2012

Welcome to the application section for the Mellon Scholars Program! Please read through all the instructions, then complete the application and submit the following materials.

1. Two recommendations from professors or former teachers who can accurately evaluate your qualifications. At least one should be from a Hope College faculty member; recommendations should not come from family members or personal friends.

2.
The"Liberal Arts Essay" you submitted in your First-Year Seminar; it should be an example of your writing ability and understanding of the liberal arts. (You may revise it before submission.)

3.
A Statement of Interest*, a 500-word essay on why you are interested in becoming a part of the Mellon Scholars program.

*For your Statement of Interest: Please review the description of Mellon Scholars Program and explain why you would like to be admitted. Do you intend to major in the Arts and/or Humanities? Are there any special subjects you would like to explore with other students and a faculty mentor? Can you envision yourself undertaking a substantial scholarly project on that topic? How might your interest be enhanced by new internet-based technologies? What are your eventual career plans?

4. A Sample of Your Best Research-based Work, a project of any length that represents your skills or potential as a researcher in the Arts or Humanities.

When you have prepared these items (#2, #3, and #4 each in a separate Word document), you may complete the following form.
