Orchestra
MUS 120-01/11, Director: Ingrid Lestrud
The Hope College Orchestra offers music majors and non-majors alike the opportunity to perform major works from the standard orchestral repertoire. The 70-80 member organization regularly presents four concerts during the school year, features guest artists, concerto/aria winners and faculty soloists as part of the concert season.

Auditions are required for all wind, brass, and percussion players.  These auditions are held at the beginning of the fall semester.  Strings are strongly encouraged to meet with the music director at the beginning of the fall semester for seating assignments.

Symphonette
MUS 150-01/11, Director, Ingrid Lestrud
The 32-member Symphonette tours annually to different parts of the United States, and every fourth year a trip abroad is planned. The Symphonette is selected each year from the larger 80-member college symphony orchestra. Through the Symphonette, the music department of Hope College is able to offer concerts to church and school communities some distance from its campus, and at the same time afford its more proficient players an unusual opportunity for group participation and concentrated study of musical styles.

The Symphonette has made numerous radio and television appearances and has presented children's and youth concerts in addition to its series of formal concerts. The Symphonette has performed at the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and the American String Teachers National Conference, and appears regularly in cities in Michigan. The Symphonette has appeared on the nationally televised Hour of Power from Garden Grove Church in California. The annual tour has taken the Symphonette to most of the U.S. as well as two Provinces in Canada, on several occasions to Europe, and to Australia and New Zealand.

Please contact the Director of Hope Orchestras, Dr. Ingrid Lestrud, for more information about the Orchestra or Symphonette.
