The
Department of Music sponsors many off-campus performances by ensembles large
and small. However, the Symphonette and Chapel Choir are the Departments flagship
touring ensembles, performing week-long tours every spring with a two-week
overseas tour every four years. Performance venues include concert halls, churches,
and high schools. Tours have taken students to perform in fourteen states and
six countries in the last four years. The Symphonette was organized in 1953
and has performed coast-to-coast in the United States as well as two provinces
in Canada, the British Isles, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Chapel
Choir was organized in 1929 and began touring annually in 1953. In addition
to touring extensively in the United States and Canada, the Choir has toured
Europe seven times, most recently in France and the Netherlands. In May 2007
the Symphonette performed in Munich, Salzburg and Prague.
