The Wind/Percussion area serves a large number of students at Hope College. Many areas of study for majors and non-majors exist, along with many ensemble opportunities including orchestras, Wind Symphony, Anchor Band, jazz ensembles, chamber ensembles, flute choir, and percussion ensemble. Other ensembles such as brass choir and others frequently perform for Vespers and other special concerts.

The area is committed to providing a quality, educational experience that includes exposure to exceptional guest artists. Through the Great Performance Series, guest soloists performing with Hope ensembles, and guest recitalists, Hope students are continually exposed to and learn from some outstanding guest artists and ensembles.

  • John Daniel, Professor of Trumpet, Lawrence Conservatory of Music
  • David Jackson, Professor of Trombone, The University of Michigan

  • Kalamazoo Symphony Woodwind Quintet
  • Lincoln Center Chamber Players

Students who wish to study a wind/percussion instrument must obtain approval from the instructor. Please see the degree pages for detailed description of semester performance and jury requirements. Many instruments are available for check out for students who do not own their own instrument. Please contact the music office for details.
