James and Irene Swaby Music Scholarships
Awards are restricted to music majors. Varying in amount, Swaby awards are renewable for up to eight semesters, and may be offered in addition to the Distinguished Artist Award or other awards listed below.

Ruth Haidt Hughes Scholarship in Organ Performance
A scholarship offered to an entering student through audition and selection by the organ professor of the Department of Music. The recipient must demonstrate exceptional promise as an organist, and as a leader in the Department. The student must achieve, and continue to achieve, consistently, the highest standards of organ performance, in the opinion of Hope College. This award will be offered concurrently with another scholarship in the Department of Music. Awards up to $10,000 annually, renewable for up to eight semesters.

David P. Roossien Scholarship in Organ Performance
A scholarship offered to an entering student through audition and selection by the organ professor of the Department of Music. The successful recipient will demonstrate aptitude, potential and interest in the field of church music, and must continue toward orderly completion of the music major or minor, as well as enrolling in organ lessons each semester. Awards up to $1,000 annually, renewable for up to eight semesters.

Herman and Elizabeth Ritsema Music Scholarship
A scholarship established by Herman and Elizabeth Ritsema in honor of their three sons who were music majors at Hope College. Preference should be given to an outstanding instrumentalist on a competitive basis entering Hope for the first time. One award of approximately $1,700 for the freshman year, not renewable.

Albert and Susie Ritsema Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship established by the four children of Albert and Susie Ritsema, three of whom were music majors at Hope College. Preference should be given to a string player on a competitive basis. One award of approximately $1,800 for the freshman year, not renewable.

Freshman Music Awards
Given each year to entering freshmen in the applied music fields of piano, voice, instrument, and organ. Awards are given on the basis of a live audition or by pre-recorded audition. The award pays the private lesson fee for the freshman year. Not renewable. Open to all students interested in music, regardless of major.

Other Honors and Awards
Each April, the Department of Music presents a number of endowed awards and scholarships to outstanding continuing music students. Full descriptions of these awards may be found in the Hope College Catalogue (see Honors and Awards).
