The purpose of the West Michigan Youth Wind Ensemble shall be four fold:

1. To present select high school students with the most challenging and educational repertoire available and to delve into the problems in playing as an ensemble, i.e. balance, intonation, technique, phrasing, dynamics, and overall emotional intent.
2. To provide instruction by the most qualified and proficient instructors in the area, via master classes, soloing with WMYWE, and sectional coaching.
3. To provide experiences beneficial to the musical growth of the students, i.e. concerts, national and international tours, recording sessions, and solo and accompanimental playing.
4. To provide a social environment in which the students can make new friends and be exposed to other talented young musicians.

The ensemble will be a joint collaboration between the Holland Symphony Orchestra and Hope College.
