Receive Hope Summer Research Awards HOLLAND - A total of
eight Hope College students have received Dean's Science Division Research
Awards from the college. The students who have been honored are Marlee
Bogema, Daniel J. Callam, Andrew J. Foster, Christopher C. Hall, Kathryn
"Katie" L. Johnson, Mark J. Panaggio, Caitlin E. Rice and
Emily Anne Schuiteman.

Stephenson Elected MAA Section Vice-Chair HOLLAND - Dr.
Darin Stephenson of the Hope College mathematics faculty has been elected
vice-chair for four-year colleges of the Michigan Section of the Mathematical
Association of America (MAA).

Edward Hansen Receives Fulbright Award HOLLAND - Dr. Edward
Hansen, professor of geology and environmental science at Hope College,
will spend August to January conducting research in Sweden through an
award from the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.
Mathematician Nathan Tintle Receives NIH Grant HOLLAND
- Dr. Nathan Tintle of the Hope College mathematics faculty has received
support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as he seeks to
help researchers who are sifting through the staggering volume of genetic
data now available to identify factors related to health and disease.

Sweers, a Hope College sophomore and nursing major from Williamston,
has won one of only 10 scholarships nationwide in the 2008 "A Nurse

Foundation Award Funds Student Research HOLLAND - Hope
College has received a fifth consecutive award for student research
from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation of Irvine, Calif., the
only college or university in the nation to have received continuous
support through the program since it started.

grant to Hope College from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
will enable the college to strengthen existing relationships and build
new ones as the college continues to emphasize its acclaimed model of

Hope Students Receive Goldwater Scholarships HOLLAND -
Three Hope College juniors have received prestigious Goldwater Scholarships
for the 2008-09 academic year out of only 321 awarded nationwide. The
three recipients, all of whom are chemistry majors at the college, are
Kristin Dittenhafer of Midland; Jonathan Moerdyk of Paris; and Amy Speelman
of Darien, Ill.

Tom Bultman has been recently appointed as an Advisor
for the journal New Phytologist. New Phytologist,
published by Blackwell, offers rapid publication of high quality, original
research in plant science. The journal is owned by a not-for-profit
organization that is dedicated to the promotion of plant science. Bultman
will be handling about 8 papers per year in his area of specialty -
endrophytes.

science, the awards provide stipends for summer research at the college.

Student and Professor Honored A Hope College student and
professor each received individual recognition for excellence during
the recent induction and installation ceremony of the Kappa Epsilon
Chapter-at-Large of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society
of Nursing.
