The goal of the REACH program is to build connections between the science faculty at Hope College and local high school students and teachers. To accomplish this, up to two teachers and six students will engage in hands-on research with Hope College science professors and students. The students and teachers will return to their schools in the fall enthused and excited about doing science and ready to share the excitement with their peers. This experience should provide an opportunity for the student participants to explore a future career in science. To be eligible for the program, students must be rising seniors and must be members of groups underrepresented in science and be nominated by a Holland community teacher. Students and teachers will receive a stipend for five weeks of summer research. Teachers will also receive two tuition-free graduate credit hours at Hope College. Hope College has been a leader in science education for decades. In 2003 U.S. News and World Report ranked Hope 4th nationally in undergraduate research and currently runs more National Science Foundation REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) programs than any other liberal arts college in the United States. If you’d like the opportunity to experience science at its best, please contact Dr. Karen Nordell-Pearson, Director of REACH.
