As part of the admission process to the Hope College Department of
Nursing, ALL Applicants are required to take the TEST OF ESSENTIAL
ACADEMIC SKILLS (T.E.A.S.).
Please
note that these testing sessions are only open to current Hope College
students.
You
must complete 12 credits BEFORE you can apply to the nursing program.

Freshman interested in the nursing major will need to attend one of the
sessions above)
WHAT IS THE TEAS V?
The Test of Essential Academic Skills
(TEAS®) is a multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in
reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The objectives
assessed on the TEAS-V exam are those which nurse educators deemed most
appropriate and relevant to measure entry level skills and abilities of
nursing program applicants. The score received on the test will
be considered as part of the selective admissions process. The TEAS is
produced by Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC (ATI). Information about
the content and format of the test
may be found at the company's website.
If you do not participate
in the TEAS, your application will not be evaluated.
WHO SHOULD
REGISTER FOR THE TEAS V?
All Hope College students who apply for admission to the
Hope College Nursing Department will be required to participate in
pre-admission testing prior to the admissions deadline for the respective
semester.
WHEN SHOULD I TAKE THE TEAS V?
Students must register
for and take the TEAS test PRIOR to the application deadline. Tests taken
after the application deadline will not be used for the current admissions
cycle.
HOW LONG DOES THE TEST TAKE AND WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?
You
will need to schedule at least four hours to take the test. You must
arrive ½ hour prior to the start of the test; and you must have your ATI Username
and Password. Calculators are not allowed. The tests will start promptly at
the scheduled times. Late arrivals will not be able to test.
IS THE TEST
REALLY 4 HOURS LONG?
The TEAS is a 3.5-hour test with four timed sections.
Extra time is added to the total testing period for user account set-up and
short breaks in between sections. You must take the entire test during the
testing period. If you finish quickly you may leave before the time has
ended.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE TEST?
You will need two #2 pencils,
your ATI Username and Password, your registration receipt and a valid Hope
College photo ID. Calculators and cell phones are prohibited while testing.
HOW WILL I BE TAKING THE TEST?
You will be taking the test on a
computer. The test is proctored, and is held in a Hope College computer lab.
You must be familiar with: 1). Using a mouse to select answers from a
multiple-choice list, 2). Using a mouse to navigate a webpage (click on
links, drop-down menus, etc), and 3). Typing information into address bars
and text boxes.
WHAT IF I NEED SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS?
Reasonable
accommodations on this test are available for students with documented
disabilities. If you have a documented disability, you should:
1. Submit
a copy of this documentation to the Hope College Academic Support Center
2. Notify the Hope College Nursing Department at
nursing@hope.edu
WHAT WILL I NEED IN ORDER TO REGISTER FOR THE TEAS?
Students taking the
test must have a credit card and an email address to complete the online
registration.
HOW MUCH DOES THE TEST COST?
Students are required
to prepay and pre-register for the Hope College Nursing Department Admission
Examination TEAS test. The cost is $45.00. Payment is accepted using major
credit cards. Students are required to pay the testing fee at the time the
test date is scheduled. Students should print a copy of their receipt
and bring it with them on testing day.
I WANT TO STUDY FIRST. IS THERE A
STUDY GUIDE?
The Hope College Nursing Department will be using the TEAS
version V. ATI offers a study manual and online practice assessments for
this version that you may purchase is you wish. Please refer to the company
website: http://www.atitesting.com. The Hope College bookstore does not sell the
study manual.
I DIDN’T DO SO WELL ON THE TEST. CAN I TAKE IT
AGAIN?
If you take the test and feel you could improve your score, you may retake
the test only once. However, applicants may take the TEAS only one time per
semester. You are required to pay for the test each time you take the test.
The Hope College Department of Nursing will use the scores associated with
the highest composite score.
WHERE DO I FIND MY SCORES?
Test
scores should be available online at
http://www.atitesting.com within 2 weeks of
taking the exam. You must log in to the ATI website to obtain your test
scores. If you cannot remember your username/password or if you do not see
your test scores, you must contact ATI at the phone number listed on their
web site.
WHAT IS A PASSING SCORE?
The TEAS Exam is not a pass
or fail test. Students completing the TEAS V exam are encouraged to earn a
Proficient of higher in the ATI Academic Preparedness Category.
WHAT
HAPPENS IF THERE IS A OF VIOLATION OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY?
If the proctor
observes any infraction of test protocol, this will be documented, and
the
individual’s test may be considered invalid and the student may be denied
admission to the Hope College Nursing Department Program. Violations
of Hope College’s Code for Academic Integrity will be handled in a prompt
and just manner as outlined in the Hope College Catalog and the college
website.
AM I REQUIRED TO RETAKE THE TEAS EACH TIME I APPLY?
NO, but if
you feel you could improve your score, you may retake the test only once.

are not a Hope College student you will not be allowed to take the
test at the
Hope College location.
Instructions: To register for the TEAS V exam, go to
http://www.atitesting.com.
- Step 1: If you do not have an account, create an account for the ATI-TEAS V
Exam. Previous ATI username and passwords are acceptable.
- Step 2:
Register for “TEAS,” next select the State [Michigan] and City [Holland],
and click next.
- Step 3: To select test date and time, first select
Learn More and then Register. Then select Check Out to pay for your TEAS V
exam.
- Step 4: On Secure Checkout page fill in requested fields and
proceed to pay.
- Step 5: Day of your Exam
- Bring valid Hope College
Student Photo Identification
- Bring ATI-TEAS Confirmation document;
username and password
- Report 15 minutes prior to start of the test
IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER:
You will be contacted via email if the
TEAS is cancelled. A cancelled TEAS will be re-scheduled.
