What: A group of inquisitive Hope students and faculty who lead campus-wide discussions each week on philosophical and cultural issues of interest to our campus community. No prior knowledge or special background needed. All are welcome.

When: Wednesday, February 8 at 4:30 p.m.

Inquiring Minds Philosophy Discussion Group meets to discuss:

Topic: The Morality of the War on Terror

Since 9/11 the United States has engaged in a "War on Terror" that has involved a number of controversial approaches. For example, an important part of the War on Terror has in recent years been carried out by drone strikes. Concern has been expressed about the morality of such strikes, in part because of the alleged large number of civilian casualties. What are the moral limitations that constrain us in fighting against terrorists hostile to the U.S.? How does one determine what level of innocent civilian casualties is acceptable? Is it possible to pursue the War on Terror in a way that is both effective and ethical?

Where: Cup and Chaucer

Refreshments will be provided.

Come discuss these and other questions with us. We look forward to your presence / participation / comments.

Please plan to join us.

If you have any questions, please call A.N. Perovich at x 7548. All are welcome!
