PHYS/ENGS 495 Microwave Engineering and Device Physics

In May 2011 I piloted a new 3 credit course on Microwave Engineering. In May 2012 we will run this successful course again.

Students in this course learn the high frequency techniques used in radio frequency and microwave measurement and circuit design. The professional tools and professional software used in this course include:

  • Vector network analyzer
  • Scalar network analyzer
  • Spectrum analyzer
  • Microwave signal generators
  • Wire bonder
  • Photolithography lab
  • Agilent Genesys (frequency domain circuit simulator)
  • IE3D (electromagnetic field simulator for microstrip circuits)
  • HFSS (electromagnetic field simulator for 3D structures)
  • Maple (general purpose math software)
