Department of Political Science

Political Science Mission Statement

Welcome to the Political Science Department, one of the most exciting, engaging, and popular areas of study at Hope College.

Consider:

  • Our talented faculty's passion for teaching plays out in a diverse range of perspectives, styles, and approaches to the classroom. Our professors are also active scholars who regularly publish and present their work on topics such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the role of faith in politics, global poverty, and the status of women in developing countries.

Please note: Dr. Paula Booke is on a leave of absence for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014.

  • Collaborative research with students is an important part of this process and is indicative of the department's strong focus on establishing one-on-one relationships with our majors.

  • Students have unparalleled opportunities for applying their interests in political science outside the classroom. In addition to the the highly-regarded Washington Honors Semester, the department offers individualized internship programs in Africa and South America, the student-led Model United Nations program, and local campaign management internships.
