Scope and Methods

Course Number: POL 242
Credits: 4
Offered: Every Semester
Instructor: Dr. Toppen
Overview:

This course, taught by most political science departments, is really two courses in one. Some departments call this course Introduction to Political Science, but most departments give it the title Scope and Methods. Dr. Toppen will provide the students with an overview of the history of the discipline and the various approaches that political scientists have used to study and discuss political life. In the Methods portion, Dr. Toppen will spend most of his sessions teaching you how to: procure information over the Internet; conceive and test hypotheses; and learn about and utilize some statistical tests normally used by behavioral political scientists.
