Matthew
Roberts
Matthew Roberts is a visiting professor at Hope. He earned his B.A. degree in Political Science and Philosophy from Calvin College in 1998, and will shortly receive his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota. His previous teaching experience includes the University of Minnesota, Aquinas College, and Calvin College. At Hope, Prof. Roberts teaches introductory and American government courses. His research focuses on the intersection of American politics and political theory--in particular, the nature and role of courts and the law. One of his ongoing research projects concerns how the Supreme Court uses third party "friends of the court" as an informational source during oral arguments, and how their presence affects the Court's decision making. He is also very interested in exploring new technologies and their potential for improving the quality of education. In 2008, the journal "PS: Political Science & Politics" will publish an article he wrote about the instructional uses of podcasting. Prof. Roberts is married and has one son, who at age two has more energy than both his parents put together. Courses |
