Hope College offers specialized advising for students who plan to pursue an advanced degree in a health profession.

The health professions listed in the left-hand menu require education beyond Hope. Our liberal arts program and health professions advisors will help prepare you for competitive graduate study in the health professions.

Hope's health professions tracks can be paired with any major at Hope; while completing your degree requirements, you will also complete prerequisites for your chosen health profession. You may wish to declare a major that overlaps with the prerequisites for your intended program, but it is not necessary.

Over the past five years, Hope pre-med students have had a 64% acceptance rate into medical school.

A Hope education makes you a strong candidate for graduate school:

Medical School Acceptance Rates
  • 85% of Hope pre-med students with a 3.5 GPA or higher are accepted to medical school
  • 69% of Hope pre-med students get into medical school over the past five years
  • On average, Hope's medical school acceptance rate is more than 25% higher than the national average for all applicants
Health Professions Advising

Health professions advising at Hope is a collaborative effort between faculty, the health professions advisor and you. We’ll work with you to develop a plan of study that includes pre-requisite courses for your chosen health profession as well as courses related to your major and other areas of interest.

We’ll help you develop a portfolio of related experiences, community service, extra-curricular activities and research that will prepare you for the next phase of your education.

When it’s time to submit your professional school application, we work intensely on crafting outstanding essays, preparing for interviews and selecting programs where you can thrive.

The health professions advising office provides group meetings and individual appointments for all interested students, whatever your major. Topics can include:

  • Course selection
  • Extra-curricular activity selection
  • Medically related activity opportunities
  • Application questions

We also offer many extra opportunities to develop your interest in health professions, including:

  • Professional school visits to campus
  • Special speakers
  • Interactions with students in professional school
  • Suture clinic
  • Community service projects
  • Connections with alumni working in a health profession
Undergraduate Research

Outstanding undergraduate research opportunities are at your fingertips, as Hope is one of 12 liberal arts institutions nationally recognized for quality research and creative projects.

Research is well funded with awards granted for the 2017–2018 school year totaling over $3.5 million from organizations such as the National Science Foundation and the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, which awarded more grants to Hope College than any other liberal arts university in its 100-year history.

Off-Campus Study
As a Hope student, you'll have access to more than 3oo off-campus study opportunities, allowing you to gain valuable experiences that will set you apart from other graduate school applicants.
Small Class Sizes
An 11:1 student:faculty ratio enables you to have enriching relationships with faculty members, creating valuable connections that can benefit you well beyond your time at Hope. Smaller class sizes in undergraduate studies can help to prepare you for the experience of smaller, more specialized graduate classes.
Alpha Epsilon Delta
Hope College's Michigan Beta chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a national health pre-professional honor society, is one of only seven chapters in the state of Michigan.
