Hope Psychology AlumniHope graduates with majors in psychology have pursued a number of different career paths. Many have pursued careers in counseling, research, and higher education. Others have pursued careers in business, primary or secondary education, or other related fields. Here's where some of them are now. 1960s Sandra Daviou Biel '64 is a school psychologist in the Arbor Park School District in Frankfort, Ill. In 1997 she was named one of five "Practitioners of the Year" by the Illinois State Psychological Association. Taibi Kahler '67 is president of KCI in Little Rock, Ark. He has served as the interviewing psychologist for NASA in the selection of astronauts, and was a psychodemographic pollster for the Clinton/Gore campaign. 1970s George Bishop '71 is a psychology professor at the University of Singapore. Hendrika Vande Kemp '71 was a clinical psychologist on the faculty of the Fuller Graduate School of Psychology in Pasadena, California 1976-2001. She is now in private practice in Annandale, VA. Jon Soderstrom '76 was named a "Point of Light" by President Bush in 1992 for founding Aid to Distressed Families in Anderson County, Tenn. He is now associate director of cooperative research at the Yale University School of Medicine. Sharon Carnahan '79 Professor and Chair of Psychology and Director of the Rollins College Child Development & Student Research Center. 1980s Daniel Snyder '80 is a licensed psychologist at the Center for Christian Psychological Services in St. Paul, Minn. Mark Laman '81 is a clinical psychologist at Pine Rest clinic in Holland, Mich. Martin Waalkes '84 received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in Clinical Psychology. He now works with adults with acquired brain injuries at Hope Network Rehabilitation Services in Grand Rapids, MI. Renee Babcock '86 earned a Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Georgia Tech., spent several years on the faculty of the University of Nebraska, and is now a member of the psychology department at Centeral Michigan University. Carol Lunderberg '88 is a clinical social worker in Minneapolis, Minn. Duane Dede '88 is a clinical psychologist at the University of Florida. Christopher M. Habben'88 has finished two Master's degrees at Fuller Seminary (MS in Marriage and Family Therapy '95 and an MA in Theology '96). He is working on a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Virginia Tech and plans to finish in the spring of 2000. Dave Braskamp '88 completed an M.A. in Measurement, Evaluation, and Research Design at Michigan State University in May 1996. Julie Maire '88 is chief operating officer of the Children's Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis (Missouri). Rebecca Thompson '88 works in the Career Center at University of California at Irvine. She is the on-campus interview coordinator. Elizabeth Van Ark '89 is a school social worker with the Harper Creek Community Schools near Battle Creek, Michigan. 1990s Wendy Braje '90 earned her Ph.D. in perceptual psychology from the University of Minnesota. Laurie Nelson '90 was a biology and psychology major at Hope, and is now using both aspects of her training as an occupational therapist in Pasadena, California. Lisa Beyer '91 is working with homeless women and children in Kalamazoo, Mich. Laura Jasper '91 has pursued her dream of working in the outdoors. After spending four years as a naturalist at various parks, she completed a masters program in Parks and Recreation at the University of Minnesota and is now the environmental education director at Green Lake Environmental Learning Center. Huong Nguyen '91, completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Michigan State University and is now a professor at Brandeis University. Beth Gunn '91, earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Tennessee. Mark Vander Weg '92, completed his Ph.D. and has accepted a position in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Michelle Nainys Bunyer '93 earned her master's degree at the University of Missouri- Columbia in 1998. She is employed as a Research Data Analyst at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford, Illinois. She specializes in needs assessments and program evaluations for health and human services organizations. Joe Clemens '93, is in his 1st year of a Clinical Psychology doctoral program at Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, New Hampshire. Todd Helmus '93, he is working as a national security analyst for the RAND Corporation and living in Pittsburgh, PA. Eric Kunisch '93 is the district psychologist for Bullock Creek Schools in Midland, Mich. Barb VandenBrink Erickson '93 is now a stay-at-home mom in Traverse City after working for four years as a family therapist for the Youth Service Bureau in Rock Island County, IL. Gretchen Sligh '93 works with patients at Forest Health Systems in Chicago, Illinois. L. James Schut '93 received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt in May, 2000. He is currently an Evaluation Consultant to the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. Christopher Bishop '94 is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Behavioral Neuroscience Program at the State University of New York-Binghamton. Jennifer Kush Enzer '94 is working for Albion College's Office of Communications as the campus Web Editor. Teresa Deer Anderson '95 has completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology and is now a post-doctoral fellow in Neuropsychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Laurel Pierce Hotchkiss '95 is working as a school social worker at Black River Public School counseling 4th-12th graders. She is the mother of 10 month old daughter and loving it! Scott Crawford '95 is teaching conversational English in Japan for AEON International Corp. Kari Nysse '96 is currently a Survey Director at the National OPinion Research Center at the University of Chicago (NORC). Jennifer Alexander '97 attended a masters program in social work at Grand Valley State University (Michigan). Justin Crawford '97 attended Notre Dame Law School. Sheryl Gabriel '97 attended a masters program in social work at the University of Michigan. Nicole Hauck '97 has recently finished her masters program in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is now employed as a therapist for FamilyCare of Illinois. She is working in the Foster Care and Adoption program conducting therapy with the children, foster parents, and biological parents. Danielle Machan '97attended a graduate program in social work at Western Michigan University. Stacey Masterson '97 attended a masters program in marriage and family therapy at Oklahoma State University. Valerie Webb '97 attended law school at the University of Maryland. Erik Manninen '98 attended the MD school at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. Theresa Spencer '98 received her Maser's of Science in Clinical Psychology at the University of Kentucky in August 2002. She is now working in Human Resources in Lexington, Kentucky. Kristy L. Dalrymple '00 will be working as a post-doctoral student at Brown University with Mark Zimmerman, M.D., on a project titled Methods to Improve Diagnostic Assessment and Services (MIDAS) Project.
