Major at Hope: Chemistry major |
What do you find exciting or interesting about your major?
I find that chemistry really agrees with me. So, the coursework and lab portions therein are a natural fit and allow me to truly enjoy the material that I learn. |
What are your career plans at this time?
At this time, I'm planning on further education at a medical school. |
Describe your summer research project.
My summer research involved molecular biology and chemistry and I worked in Dr. Maria Burnatowska-Hledin's laboratory on a project involving the VACM-1/cul5 gene. My project included cell culture and various assays that examined cell growth, structure, and morphology. |
What are some of your favorite activities outside of your school work?
I enjoy fishing of all kinds, mainly with a fly rod though, fly tying, hunting, downhill skiing, and just about anything else that sounds interesting at the time; in that order. |
What were some influences on your decision to attend Hope?
I decided to attend Hope for several reasons. Namely, I found that the people are warm and friendly and the faculty is top-notch; willing to help wherever help may be needed. Along with the many opportunities that Hope provides, these factors made for an environment that is conducive to learning and advancement. Also, the S-STEM scholarship was crucial, as I would not have been able to attend Hope without it. |
