Daina Robins
Chairperson for Theatre Department
Professor of Theatre
Daina Robins joined the Hope College Theatre
Department in 1991, served as
Director of Theatre for over five years, and became chair of the department
in
1997. She has led the program through two accreditation reviews by
the
National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and is currently
serving a
second term as a member of NAST's Commission. She regularly directs
for the
department and teaches courses in acting, directing, and theatre history.
She
also often directs for the Hope Summer Repertory Theatre and in recent
seasons
has directed for the Actors' Theatre (THE GOAT by Edward Albee) and
Western
Michigan University (ALOHA SAY THE PRETTY GIRLS by Naomi Iizuka). A founding
member of Double Edge Theatre in Massachusetts, she maintains
an association with the company and has observed the work of Theatre
de la Jeune Lune and the Wooster Group during her last two sabbaticals.
Education
- Undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota-Moorhead
- M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Tufts University
- Daina has also studied at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich,
Germany under a German Academic Exchange scholarship (DAAD)
