Off Campus Internships
Learning in the Theatre Department is not limited
to coursework. The department offers vast opportunities, on and off campus,
for students to gain experience and develop their technical, design, and
performance skills.
- Hope offers internship programs in Chicago and Philadelphia which can place students in jobs in a variety of backstage
or administrative positions.
- One of the best internship programs for theatre
students is the GLCA New York
Arts Program, which is recognized by the
Great Lakes Colleges Association to which Hope belongs. In this fall
or spring semester work/study program, students live in New York City,
take classes, and apprentice with practicing artists or com-panes in
theatre, dance, film, television production, or arts management.
- For students who are looking for other professional
opportunities, the Theatre Department helps them prepare for and participate
in off-campus auditions such as the Midwest Theatre Auditions, the University/Resident
Theatre Association Auditions, or the Irene Ryan Acting Award Scholarships,
sponsored by the Kennedy
Center/American College Theater Festival. Students
who have participated in these rigorous, competitive auditions have
gone on to work in various theatres across the country.
