bobrauschenbergamerica
takes its name from the 20th Century visual artist Robert Rauschenberg who was known for his distinctly vibrant and often humorous paintings and collages.  Likewise, playwright Charles L. Mee has constructed a theatrical landscape inspired by a Rauschenberg-like view of American iconography.  Originally created in 2001 in collaboration with Anne Bogart's SITI Company, the play weaves music, dance, and a variety of original and existing texts from Walt Whitman to the internet, creating a melting pot of shared cultural history.  The result is a dizzying journey led by a quirky ensemble of characters that peers into our recent past with humor and affection to discover the promises of the 21st century.
