Michigan State Police Reports

Michigan State Police provide a service to the community through the gathering of crime statistics. The UCR (Uniform Crime Reports) data is collected by most law enforcement agencies in the United States and forwarded to the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, on a monthly basis. The primary objective of the UCR Program is to provide a reliable set of criminal justice statistics for law enforcement administration, operation, and management. Complete nation-wide UCR statistics are published yearly by the DOJ in their Crime in the United States, released in September each year for the previous year.

In some cases the UCR data is compiled under various topics in a user friendly pdf format (UCR Crime Report).Trend analyses are possible for crime categories over time. But also comparisons are useful. For example, percentages of overall crime totals for juveniles can provide a unique county profile to identify problem areas, and set priorities and benchmarks to reduce juvenile crime. It should be noted that the comparative state and local data in the table to the right does not take into account a crime rate according to total population. However, with demographic data from American FactFinder crime rates can be calculated.
