Nausea,Vomiting & Diarrhea - Oh My!

Short episodes, lasting less than 24 hours, can usually be treated on your own.

1. Do not eat solid food when you are nauseous or vomiting! Instead, drink plenty of fluids
Small, but frequent sips of clear liquids are best.
Avoid alcoholic, caffeinated or sugary drinks.
Sports drinks such as Gatorade are fine IF they are diluted with water. At full strength they contain too much sugar, which can worsen diarrhea.
2. After nausea and/or vomiting have stopped - resume food slowly!
Plain foods that are easiest on the stomach are best.
Rice, toast, applesauce, potatoes, low sugar cereals, and lean (not fried) meats are best to start with.
Gradually resume your normal diet over the next 2-3 days.

Seek Medical care if:
