Receptions at the Maas Center

The Maas Center located at 264 Columbia Avenue on the campus of Hope College provides a beautiful setting for a wedding reception. The Maas Center consists of the Auditorium, which can accommodate 225 banquet guests, and the Conference Room, which accommodates a maximum of 90. Receptions are held at Maas during the summer (weekend following commencement in May to weekend prior to new student arrival in August) and academic holidays (Fall Break in October, Christmas Break in December and January, Winter Break in February, and Spring Break in March). Hope College is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, however Maas is open to persons of other faiths and denominations.

Confirmation: Maas is confirmed 1 year prior to the wedding date. Receptions can be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday, and you may choose a mid-day or evening block, depending on availability. Rental Fee: The Maas Center is available for rent to the general public. The rental fee for 2007 is $600.00 with a full meal reception and $800.00 with a refreshment only reception. The balance is non-refundable and is required with the signed contract. Rental includes the Maas Auditorium, Maas Conference Room, and Maas Lobby.

Hours of Use: The renter will have use of the facility for five consecutive hours. The five hours includes set-up, the event and breakdown. Pre-arranged additional time may be purchased for use after five hours for $100.00 an hour, which will be billed after the event. All times are scheduled through the Conference Services Office at 616-395-7220.

Music: You may choose to have live or recorded music, or no music at all. We provide chairs and music stands for musicians. The sound system can play pre-recorded music off a CD. Hope College possesses sole discretion to make the request to reduce the sound.

Maas Center Items: The following items are available for your use:

  • All linens, dishes, silverware, and glasses.
  • Hand held microphones, standing microphones, and cordless lavaliere microphone
  • Lecterns
  • Grand piano
  • Assortment of tables for place cards, display, etc.
  • Music stands, stools, chairs, etc.
  • Fixed stage
  • Head table to accommodate up to 12 people
  • 15’x15” dance floor or a 21’x30’ dance floor (additional rental fee $250.00 and $400.00 respectively)
  • LCD projector in conjunction with your laptop (additional rental fee of $100.00)

Arrangements for use of these items must be made one month in advance with the Conference Services department at 616-395-7220. Request for use of items the day of the event may not be able to be granted.

Food: All food for the reception must be catered through Hope College Dining Services. You may contact them for menu and decoration needs by calling 616-395-7210.

Cake: Hope College Food Service is available for cakes and all other desserts. It is permissible to use outside resources for the cake only. A cake-cutting fee is applicable for all events that utilize this option for cakes. When selecting an outsourced cake, please make arrangements for proper delivery, for cake set up, display, and removal.

Flowers: Hope Dining Services can provide flowers as part of the event decoration package. A fee may apply if these flowers are removed. If you choose to out-source your florist, we ask that you inform your florist to limit the types of greenery used in your floral design to those that do no shed.

Alcohol/Smoking: Hope College, an institution affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, does not allow the consumption of alcohol, use of illegal drugs, or any other activity the College deems inconsistent with its mission. Smoking is not permitted in campus buildings and facilities.

Parking: Parking is available in any designated Hope College lot. Handicap parking spaces are located in the vicinity of the Maas Center.
