Colleague Collaboration

Did you ever want to know how college X was handling a certain complex issue? Wonder what other institutions are thinking of changing due to the economy? Have a great idea to share with your peer colleges? WELL, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE!

Join us Friday morning (8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.) for COLLEAGUE COLLABORATION – a time to sit down with your peers and swap stories/ideas/concerns.

We will begin this time with looking at four key questions:

  1. A 2.8% funding reduction to public universities was just announced by the State. Private schools have had to make some adjustments given losses in endowments and gift giving. All schools were impacted by the loss of the Promise Scholarship. How have economic issues impacted your ability to offer benefits? Are there any best practices that can be shared for announcing benefit cuts? Are you making any strategic benefit changes?
  2. Have you needed to institue a layoff process? What types of issues have you run into? With staff? With tenured faculty? Has there been a focus on attrition? Any best practices on early-outs?
  3. What is your institution doing as far as restructuring that is not related to layoff or downsizing necessarily, but rather job or organizational design issues (management restructuring, oursourcing, review of academic or service programs)?
  4. How are you anticipating the Health Care Reform might impact your institution?

Following these four questions, we will have time to share other ideas/concerns. We will announce during breakfast on Friday the format for this time. Plan on attending! Your ideas/solutions might be the answer someone else is looking for!
