Human Element, Inc.: "The Working Wounded"
Pam Goedde & Jeff Stucke
Thursday, October 14, 2010
8:45-10:00 am

In these economic times, many businesses are closing their doors and/or laying off employees. A great deal of focus is on these displaced workers as they seek unemployment benefits and outplacement assistance. But what about the workers who are left behind? Those who are still working but are wounded? Those who feel the survivor's guilt, are overwhelmed by the added responsibilities, experience the grief of the loss of their co-workers, and the fear that they will be the next to lose their jobs? Studies are already showing that employee theft and acts of violence in the workplace are on the rise. Yet, in a recent survey conducted by SHRM, the ten mostly likely employer budget cuts for 2009 deal with employee morale programs and team-building activities. Companies need to realize that, more than ever, they must continue to support their remaining employees. They need to rethink how they manage during non-prosperous economic times by realizing that employees and employee programs are not liabilities, but assets that are essential to long-term success.

Mitzi Taylor: "Be the Change You Want to See"
Owner & President of NSBT & Consulting
Thursday, October 14, 2010
12:30-1:30 pm

Common Courtesy used to describe behaviors that everyone was expected to know and practice, hence the word ‘common’. There was a personal accountability to being courteous. Your manners and etiquette were not just about how you treated others, it was a show of your attitude in general. A beautiful thing!

It got me thinking, what happened to common courtesy? Is it dead? Being held hostage? I went searching for Common Courtesy. This session is about revitalizing courtesy so we can once again call it ‘common’! Topics include: communication courtesy, public places, traveling, and courtesy at work.
