Executive Assistant to the President

Hope College invites immediate applications for this full time, exempt position. Hope College is a Christian, co-educational, undergraduate, residential, multicultural, liberal arts college of 3,200 students, affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, located in Holland, MI.

Job Description:

The Executive Assistant will be responsible for working with and providing support for the President of Hope College and the Board of Trustees. General responsibilities in these two areas include, but are not limited to:

Board of Trustees and the Board Chair:

  • Plan and organize all aspects of the Board of Trustees meetings (six meetings per year), including meeting room arrangements, hotel room arrangements, catering, and formal dinners
  • Interact professionally and confidently with a wide variety of senior corporate executives and other influential leaders
  • Prepare and send Board books and materials
  • Attend all Board meetings, take notes, and write the minutes
  • Write correspondence
  • Update Board documents as needed
  • Maintain Board files

Support of the President:

  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and PowerPoint presentations
  • Plan special events (dinners, parties, etc.)
  • Manage the President’s calendar
  • Meeting arrangements
  • Manage the budget for the President’s office
  • Screen and handle phone calls, including complaints
  • Answer emails
  • Make domestic and international travel arrangements, including airlines and hotels
  • Attend Administrative Staff meetings, take notes, and write minutes


The successful candidate will have five or more years of work experience as a senior level assistant and board professional. This person must have excellent composition and grammar skills and be able to apply a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail to all tasks. Public relations skills are crucial and must be able to handle confidential matters. Other skills desired:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with database reporting (Banner) helpful
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects at once
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with no supervision
  • Must personally support and be able to articulate the Christian mission of Hope College
  • College degree strongly preferred
