PROVOST'S OFFICE Hope College is a Christian, coeducational, multicultural, residential, liberal arts college of 3,200 undergraduate students affiliated with the Reformed Church in America. The college is ecumenical in character while rooted in the Reformed tradition. Hope College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and holds discipline accreditations in art, athletic training, chemistry, dance, engineering, music, nursing, social work, teacher education, and theatre. Hope College is a member of the Great Lakes Colleges Association, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association of NCAA Division III, and has a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. The full-time equivalent faculty numbers 230. Hope offers bachelor’s degree programs in 83 major fields. Postion Description The provost is the chief academic officer of the college, reporting directly to the president and acting as chief administrative officer in the absence of the president. This individual is responsible for all academic programs at the college. Major responsibilities include faculty hiring, evaluation, and development; supervision of other academic administrators; leadership of the academic dimension of the campus governance system; planning and evaluation of all academic programs; and academic budget development and control. Qualifications Candidates must possess a commitment to exceptional professional performance and a mature understanding of and commitment to the Christian faith. The provost must be able to simultaneously advance and articulate the academic and Christian character of the college. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, an earned doctorate or its equivalent, and a record of achievement sufficient to merit a tenured appointment to the rank of professor in one of the academic disciplines of the college. Hope College expects the provost to be an inspirational leader, an effective oral and written communicator, and passionate about fostering inclusive interactions with the campus community. The provost must have demonstrated competence as an administrator and a balanced, college-wide interest in teaching and learning, scholarship, and collaborative grant-funded undergraduate research.
