Part Time, On -Call Temporary Officer

Hope College invites immediate applications for this part time, temporary position with the Campus Safety office. Hope College is a Christian, co-educational, undergraduate, residential, multicultural, liberal arts college of 3,200 students, affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, located in Holland, MI.

The purpose of this position is to provide 24-hour service to the campus community 7 days a week, 365 days a year in a professional manner in accordance with the mission of the department and Hope College. The part time officer will be utilized to cover the shifts of full time officers and for supplemental coverage during special events on campus.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to a variety of emergency and calls for assistance on campus.
  • Enforce parking regulations, college regulations on and around the Hope College campus
  • Assist the Holland Department of Public Safety with criminal investigations and processing incident reports through the College Judicial System.
  • Maintaining building security by locking up and unlocking college buildings according to scheduled times set by the college administration, continued security patrolling of buildings during night-time hours.
  • Provide emergency medical services including giving first aid and transporting the injured and sick to the Holland Community Hospital emergency room.
  • Investigate and document vehicle accidents that occur on college property.
  • Regulation of parking and security at college athletic events and other social events
  • Provide escorts for students building as requested
  • Security detail for dignitaries and other visitors at the college
  • Assist faculty/staff and students with lockouts (room/office)
  • Submit work orders (locksmith/physical plant/CIT)
  • Report safety hazards on campus.
  • Providing a multitude of miscellaneous services for the campus community as such services are requested or directed by the Director of Campus Safety.


A minimum of an associate’s degree with work experience in campus safety/law enforcement or in the campus security field.  General computer skills including Microsoft Office programs.  Experience with two way radios and Nextel, fax machine, digital camera and video recording devices. Valid Michigan driver's license. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to work flexible hours outside normal shift as needed as the office is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days.
