CAMPUS SAFETY
Part Time Information Center Operator/Dispatcher

Hope College invites immediate applications for this part-time position with the Information Center/Campus Safety office. The position will work Monday and Tuesday evenings and also be available on an on-call basis to cover shifts for full time operator/dispatchers and provide supplement staff during the essential times of the year. The office is open 365 days a year, 24 hours/day. Hope College is a Christian, co-educational, undergraduate, residential, multicultural, liberal arts college of 3,200 students, affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, located in Holland, MI.

Job Description:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Be the first contact for the College and Campus Safety department
  • Receive and dispatch 911 calls
  • Communicate effectively with Ottawa County Central Dispatch
  • Retain an overall understanding of the Pegasys (card access) and Metasys (mechanical monitoring) systems
  • Respond to computer monitored security and fire alarms
  • Dispatch Campus Safety Officers via radio system for emergency situations, escorts, lockouts and a variety of assistance calls
  • Develop an understanding of specific Information Center processes and procedures (parking enforcement, parking permits, card access system, training scheduling)
  • Assist campus community and constituents with a variety of questions and concerns
  • Assist in training of student employees
  • Manage the Campus Safety email account for work orders and key requests
  • Have a knowledge of the Events Management Systems (EMS) software used for room, vehicle, and other campus reservations

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma minimum with prior office experience required
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, employee handbooks, and procedure manuals
  • Computer proficiency including database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers, students, and employees
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
