The Hope Way

The November 21, 2005. issue of Sports Illustrated contained an article entitled, "The Duke Way." The article talked about how Coach Krzyzewski has created a certain culture within the Duke basketball program that has become known as "The Duke Way." One of the things he has built into the program is to match an upper classman with a freshman. It is a "buddy system" that lasts for the whole year. The desire is for the upper classmen to teach, model, direct, and care for the new guys. It's not a program but a type of formation taught through "hanging out" with each other.

Formation through relationships is nothing new on Hope's campus. It happens sporadically with athletic teams, fraternities, and different organizations. However, it is NOT built into the wider DNA of the men at Hope College. The vision of The Hope Way is that someday it will. The Hope Way designs, supports, and resources a variety of activities and events that nurture the vision for men to invest in other men.
