Authorizing Official: Tracey Nally, Director of Sponsored Research Programs should be listed as the authorizing official if the grant will be submitted electronically. If a paper proposal is required, follow the organization's guidelines. More than likely the President will be listed requiring his signature. If you are unsure, please contact the Sponsore Research Office (SRO).

Fiscal Officer: Kevin Kraay manages all grant awards. He should be the person listed to receive the award money. If it's a governmental award, Kevin will electronically request the funds from the agency. Once the primary investigator (PI) receives the offical award notice, he/she must contact Kevin Kraay to establish a fund to begin drawing on the money. |
FRINGE BENEFIT RATE
FEDERAL: 18.15% (6.20% FICA + 1.45% MQFE [medicare] + 10.5% retirement) of senior and other personnel salaries. If PD/PI or other senior personnel provide more than 50% of their time on the grant use 32%.
PRIVATE: Sources vary so follow their guidelines. Some only allow FICA (6.20%/MQFE (1.45%) = 7.65%
INDIRECT COST
FEDERAL Funding: 50% of senior personnel and student salaries and wages (except NSF REU which is 25% of only student salaries)
PRIVATE Funding: It varies so refer to the funding source guideline.
STUDENT FICA
7.65% of student salary (summer only). Enrolled students are exempt so FICA is not needed
