If it's a governmental award, Kevin will electronically request the funds from the agency. Audited Financial Statement

Fringe Benefit Rate - Faculty/Staff
FEDERAL: 18.15% (6.20% FICA + 1.45% MQFE [medicare] + 10.5% retirement) of senior and other personnel salaries. If PD/PI or other senior personnel provide more than 50% of their time on the grant, use 38%: 7.65% FICA/MQFE + 10.5% retirement (not eligible in year 1) + 19.85% healthcare.

Faculty must use a 30% fringe rate (7.65% FICA/MQFE + 10.5% retirement + 11.85% healthcare) when requesting salary replacement for a course release.

PRIVATE: Sources vary so follow their guidelines. Some only allow FICA 6.20%/MQFE 1.45% = 7.65%

Fringe Benefits - Student
7.65% (FICA/MQFE) of student summer salary to cover Hope's portion of the taxes. Enrolled students during the academic year are exempt.

Indirect Cost Rate
FEDERAL Funding: 49% of senior personnel and student salaries and wages before fringe benefits (except NSF REU which no longer allows indirect on student stipends)

PRIVATE Funding: It varies so refer to the funding source guideline.

Hope College does not have a indirect cost rate for off campus activity.

Student Summer Housing
Rates are determined by the Business Services Office at the beginning of each calendar year. You are advised to go to their site for a current rate. However, the following projected rates are provided for the development of future grant proposal budgets at an estimated 10% annual increase. The college provides a 50% discount for summer student researchers which are indicated in paratheses.

Transportation Rates
Hope mileage reimbursement = .45/mile
Hope car/van rental

Federal privately owned auto rate = .54/mile

Federal Per Diem Lodging/Meals/Transportation Rates : Holland = $98/day

2017 - $8.90/hr
2018 - $9.25/hr

Federal Contractor Minimum Wage - $10.10/hr - federal contract or subcontract rate
