Hope College Teaching Assessment (HCTA)
Procedures for Administration

Click here for Faculty HCTA Administration and FAQ's

An important feature of the online HCTA is the ability to customize it to your needs. You can add questions with text or multiple choice responses that are specific to your course and methods. HCTA forms are automatically created for every course by default. If you do not want to use the HCTA in some or all of your courses, follow step 2 below.

Instructions: (details are broken down into several cases)

  1. You want to use the online version of the HCTA, without any added questions, in all of your courses this fall:

In this case, you do not have to do anything. Evaluation forms for each of your courses will be available to students.

  2. You want to use the unmodified HCTA in some, but not all, of your courses this fall:

You will need to indicate which courses you don't want to use the HCTA in. To do so, follow the Faculty HCTA administration link at the top of this page, and log in using your Webmail user name and password. Choose the option labeled "Choose courses in which to administer the HCTA", and then select those courses that you don't want to use the HCTA. If you change your mind, contact Laurie Van Ark in the Frost Center (vanark@hope.edu).

  3. You want to use the online version of the HCTA, and you want to add supplemental questions for one or more courses.

Please send supplemental questions to Laurie Van Ark of the Frost Research Center (vanark@hope.edu) for insertion in your survey form(s).

In this case, you must also choose courses in which to administer the HCTA using the mechanism described in case 2 above.

  4. You don't want to use the online HCTA in any of your courses this fall.

Follow the instruction listed under case 2 above, and delete all of the courses.

The online HCTA link for students will be posted on KnowHope when surveys are open each semester. They will also be announced to faculty and students via email at that time. Once the surveys are open, please encourage your students to complete the HCTA to increase your response rates. You will have online access to the HCTA results each semester on the day after final grades are due.

A list of frequently asked questions (FAQ's) regarding the administration of the HCTA is also available at the link above. If you have any questions not covered under FAQ, feel free to contact Laurie Van Ark, Frost Center, (x7556 or vanark@hope.edu) or Ryan McFall, Dept. of Computer Science (x7952 or mcfall@hope.edu). Questions about policy should be directed to Steve Bouma-Prediger (chair of AcAB) or the Provost's office.
