FACULTY EVALUATION PROCEDURES
FOR 2009
(applies to all full-time continuing faculty)
- Faculty members complete the Faculty
Service to Hope form.
- Faculty members meet with chairs to evaluate their performance during
the previous year, to set goals for the coming year, and to propose
ways by which success in meeting these goals can be determined.
- Chairs will complete written recommendations on a separate page for
all pre-tenure faculty, and tenured faculty members being proposed for
special merit; these recommendations will be appended to the Faculty
Service to Hope form. NOTE: To prevent the
creation of expectations that we may not be able to meet, chairs are
requested NOT to inform individual faculty that he or she will be recommended
for special merit. Until the deans and Status Committee can evaluate
all the recommendations, there are no guarantees. President Bultman
will meet with the Status Committee to review merit & equity recommendations.
All those involved in the decisions will appreciate your understanding
and support. If you have questions about this process, please consult
your dean or the provost.
- Chairs will submit written recommendations with supporting rationale
to their dean for equity adjustments as appropriate.
- Chairs will meet with their dean to discuss each faculty member in
their department, particularly those being recommended for special merit
and/or equity. Those being recommended for special merit should be listed
in priority order with a written explanation for the recommendation.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE to the dean: January
19, 2009
- Deans will prepare a rank-order list of special merit recommendations
with an explanation for each recommendation.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE to the provost:
February 2, 2009
-
The Status Committee receives all Faculty
Service to Hope forms with special merit and/or equity recommendations,
and each dean's rank-order list with explanations. The committee also
has access to all Faculty Service to
Hope forms for review.
-
The Status Committee conducts discussions and meets in turn with
each of the deans and makes recommendations for merit/equity increases.
The Provost will forward these recommendations to the President for
final approval. If there are concerns about any of the recommendations,
the President will review them with the Status Committee.
- Faculty receiving special merit/equity increases are informed through
the contract letter, which will be issued by March 13, 2009
