I'm on an off-campus program, how can I register for classes?

If you are studying on an off-campus program, you will register on-line. Your registration time is determined by the number of credits you have earned-students with more earned credits will register before those with fewer credits.

Here's a SHORT summary of what you'll do to register for classes-continue reading this site for details:

  1. Check your KnowHopePlus account for your registration time and any holds which block your registration.  Maura Reynolds will notify you via email when times and holds have been added. Times are local, Holland, Michigan times-you may register at or after your assigned time-not before.
  2. Check the on-line class schedule. If any of the classes you need/want require permission of instructor or department, contact Maura Reynolds (advising@hope.edu).  She'll contact departments to get the required permission and contact YOU about the results.
  3. You do NOT need a registration PIN to register on line. You WILL need to know your user ID and PIN to access your KnowHopePlus account.
  4. Complete your registration on-line-see below for details.
  5. Be CAREFUL about wait-lists (see below for details)-double-check your schedule to MAKE SURE you've followed the process and your name is on the wait list.  If you're on a wait list, Maura will follow up on the designated days and let you know if you've been admitted to the class(es).

Your registration time-as well as any holds that prevent your registration--will be listed KnowHopePlus account. Maura Reynolds will send you an email notification. To check this information, log onto your KnowHopePlus account, click on "Registrar, Financial Aid, and Student Accounts," then click on "Registration Status."  If you have any holds, your registration will be blocked until the hold is resolved.  You can see the type(s) of hold you have by clicking on "View Holds."  Please check with the appropriate office (listed at the end of this site) as quickly as possible.

You will register for classes via your KnowHopePlus account . You can read about the process for on-line registration at http://plus.hope.edu/hero.html .

To log in and register for classes, you'll need to know your Hope ID number and your PIN (if you've forgotten yours, please enter your ID number and click on "Forgot PIN?" on the KnowHopePlus home-page).  You'll be prompted with the security question you set; provide the answer you set, and you can re-set your own PIN.  If you have problems, please e-mail ADVISING@hope.edu.  Since you are studying off-campus, you will NOT need a Registration PIN to register on-line.

Here are the steps you should follow:

1.  Check the schedule of classes:

The schedule is updated as changes are made, so you'll want to check it again right before you register on-line.

Please select first choice classes as well some alternate classes.  I suggest you use the on-line schedule planner to avoid time conflicts.

2.      You may NOT register on-line for classes labeled "RESTRICTED" or "Written permission of instructor/chair required."  If you want to register for classes requiring permission, please e-mail ADVISING@hope.edu.  Maura will contact the appropriate departments or instructors, and if they give their permission, she'll enroll you in the class(es).

Check your proposed schedule NOW for classes that require permission.  Contacting departments takes time.  If you wait till the last minute to get permission, space in the class may not be available.

3.      If you do not have access to the web, you may FAX 616.395.7680 or e-mail ADVISING@hope.edu with a list of courses (please include the CRNs-the 5-digit numbers in the column labeled "Crn" and alternates).   Maura will register you at your assigned time and try to contact you via e-mail if she runs into any snags-please include your e-mail address.  You can help yourself by providing plenty of alternates; if Maura has to contact you for other options, your registration will be delayed.

4.      You'll be able to see your class schedule on-line as soon as you've registered.

Any classes you're on the wait-list for will appear on your schedule--these classes are marked "WL/Wait Listed" rather than "RE/Registered" on your "Detail Schedule".  The Wait Listed classes also appear on your printable schedule (so you can be aware of when they meet).

Ø      If you want to be on a Wait List, don't forget to click on "Submit Changes" after you select "Wait List" from the menu-neglecting to do this is the most common error with on-line registration.

5.      After registration, wait-listed students will come to the Registrar's Office to see if they got into classes.  On these days, Maura will check your wait-list status and add you to any classes you've been given permission to add.  She may need to contact you via e-mail to make changes in your schedule to accommodate the new class(es).

If you have a HOLD, you will not be able to register until your hold is resolved. Check below for whom to contact.  It may take time to resolve your hold(s); please act promptly.
