about booking classrooms

Q: Who do I contact? The Events and Conference Office or the Registrar?
A: It depends. If it is directly related to an academic class, contact the Registrar's Office or email classrooms@hope.edu.
If it is for something OTHER than an academic class, contact ECO or use Virtual EMS to find and book space.

Q: I thought I had to go through the Registrar's Office for any academic space. Has this changed?
A: Not really. There is just some confusion about what academic "space" means. The key to remember is whether it is related to an academic class or not. Academic class bookings or classroom changes go to the Registrar at classrooms@hope.edu. Everything else goes through ECO.

Q: What about computer labs? Who takes care of them?

A. Again, if it's related to an academic class, contact the Registrar at classrooms@hope.edu and, if it's for something else, go to ECO. However, the Registrar's Office must give ECO approval on requests for academic computer labs.
If your request is for an event, ECO will contact the Registrar to get the final approval.

Q: How do I book my classrooms for my classes?
Classrooms are assigned (booked) when the class schedule is built for each semester and term. Each department or subject area (e.g. Senior Seminars, Cultural Heritage courses, Women's Studies, etc.) has a "scheduler" who coordinates the building of the class schedule.

Q: Who is my "scheduler"?
If you don't know who your scheduler is, please ask your department chair or department secretary. They should know.

Q: What if I have special needs for my classroom assignment?
If you have special needs due to physical isssues or preferences (seating style, equipment, etc.) for your classroom assignments, you should make these known to your scheduler.

Q: What if I have back-to-back classes? Will I get the same room?
We will make every attempt to put you in the same room, or, at minimum, the same building.

Q: I want to change the room for my final exam. How do I do that?
Contact the Registrar at classrooms@hope.edu because your final exam date and time is part of your regular semester booking. Please do not contact ECO about any changes for your final exam.

In the end, ECO and the Registrar have a common desire to assist you with your classroom needs. We have crafted a very collaborative relationship to reach that goal.
