Credits to Hope College
Hope doesn’t have a set list of transferable courses from other
colleges. We prefer to look at all incoming transfer credit on an individual
basis. Hope accepts most coursework from accredited institutions. However,
the following are guidelines for choosing courses elsewhere:
• We do not accept remedial courses; all coursework must be
at the 100-level or higher.
• We do not accept any math course lower than College Algebra (e.g. Beginning
Algebra or Intermediate Algebra).
•
Credit hours are never changed: if the course is 3 credits at school
X, but it’s worth 4 credits at Hope, IT WILL BE POSTED
AS 3 CREDITS. Sometimes 3 credit courses will not satisfy 4-credit
requirements.
• Students may transfer a maximum of 65 credits from community colleges.
•
Courses with grades of ‘C’ or better will automatically
transfer. Courses with grades of ‘C-’or lower will
only transfer if the GPA at school X is above 2.0.
Currently enrolled Hope students MUST have prior approval before taking
courses elsewhere by using the Credit
Transfer Form.
We must have an official transcript from the other school in order
to award transfer credit.
Examples of classes that will fit into the General Education Curriculum:
- freshmen-level English composition
- foreign language (e.g. Spanish I, II, etc. - not just a conversation
course)
- statistics, calculus
- 4-credit lab science (chemistry, biology, earth science, etc.)
- Intro Psychology or Sociology
- Macroeconomics, American Government
- any fine arts lecture (art history, intro music, art appreciation,
etc.)
Before enrolling in a class to transfer to Hope, consult the current
Catalog or specific
departments’ websites for major requirements
that may correspond with general education requirements.
A complete list of general education
requirements can be found here.
