10 Introduction

The Holland Medi Center (HMC) is a  Occupational Health Service Company located at 175 Waverly Road in Holland.  Its collective mission is to manage work-related injuries of employees in the Holland Zeeland area as well as Hope College.

In addition the Public Safety Department employees full time staff who are trained in handing medical emergencies.  Public Safety Officers have direct radio communication with Police, Fire, and Ambulance services in the Holland area.
 

20 Medical Emergencies

IF A POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING MEDICAL EMERGENCY OCCURS AT THE WORKSITE, ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SYSTEM BY CALLING 911 OR (8-911 IF YOU ARE A 4xxx EXTENSION.)  IMMEDIATELY  MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO MEET THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERES AT A PREARRANAGED LOCATION TO PROVIDE AN ESCORT AND ACCESS TO THE LOCATION OF THE EMPLOYEE WITH THE EMERGENCY.
 

30 Occupational Health Center

The main building for Holland Medi Center (HMC) is located at 175 Waverly Road near 8th Street in Holland (616) 392-5222.  It has full-time physician coverage and is operational each workday for 7am to 7pm the primary mission of the Clinic is to treat work-related injuries and illnesses.
 

40 Occupational Medical Services

The majority of Clinic patient visits are for immunizations, work-related exams, blood tests and on-the job injuries.  Treatment of work-related traumatic injuries should be obtained as soon as possible after the injury.  Although there will be instances when care is needed urgently, supervisors should fill out a Holland Medi Center referral form for the employee to carry with them to the Clinic.  If possible someone in the work site should call the Clinic to alert the them that an injured employee will be seeking treatment.

The Holland Medi Center also conducts the following medical surveillance programs for a variety of occupational hazards and positions:

Hearing conservation
Respirator use
Tuberculosis screening
Drug Screening and Physicals
 

50 Non-Occupational Illness Visits
Non-Occupational illness or injuries should be seen by the employees personal doctor or one of the local hospitals.
 

60 Injuries/Exposure Incidents
Treatment for work-related traumatic injuries can be obtained through the Emergency room at Holland Community Hospital.  Follow-up visits can be scheduled at the Holland Medi Center.  The hospital should be informed that the injury is work related so that the records can be transferred to the Holland Medi Center for follow-up.
