WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Flying Dutch Win MIAA Tournament; NCAA Tournament Play is Next

Grand Rapids Press Story

Hope finished their regular season undefeated and now await word from the NCAA as to when and where the top-ranked Flying Dutch will compete in the Division III tournament. The Flying Dutch defeated Albion 70-59 Saturday in the championship game of the MIAA tournament before more than 1,700 DeVos Fieldhouse fans.

Coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch posted a 27-0 record, the second time in four years that Hope has gone unbeaten in the regular season.

The second-seeded Britons gave the Flying Dutch a major challenge, especially in the early-going. The teams were tied 15-15 with nine minutes left in the first half. As they have done so many times this season, the Flying Dutch went on a run outscoring Albion 15-0 to take a 30-15 lead. Hope led 34-24 at halftime. Albion came within four points, 39-35, six minutes into the second half, but another Hope run of 10 points gave the Flying Dutch a double-digit lead they would not relinquish.

Hope received outstanding play from its post players. Senior Lindsay Lange scored 13 points, blocked three shots and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman Carrie Snikkers scored 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting and took down seven rebounds. And junior Courtney Knox scored nine points and hauled in eight rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. Sophomore guard Philana Greene was also in double figures with 10 points to go along with five assists and four steals.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Flying Dutchmen Defeat Rival Calvin a 3rd Time

The Flying Dutchmen capped their regular season with an MIAA tournament championship victory over rival Calvin, 88-72. Playing before a record DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 3,653, the Flying Dutchmen defeated their rival a third time this season expanded their advantage in the alltime series to three games (86-83).

The championship advances Hope to the NCAA tournament for the 19th time in school history. The Flying Dutchmen were the top-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region entering the weekend and stand a good chance of hosting a tournament game although that won't be known until Monday.

Midway through the first half the visiting Knights had a 13-point lead, 27-14, quieting the largely partisan Hope throng. Hope would outscore Calvin 17-6 over the next three minutes to trim the deficit to two points, 33-31. Junior Zach Osburn's putback gave Hope a 38-37 halftime lead.

The teams were tied twice in the early minutes of the second half before Hope went on another eight-point run to take commanded 50-42. The Flying Dutchmen would never look back leading by as many as 20 points.

Hope had four players score in double figures left by senior Tyler Wolfe with 25 points. Ryan Klein added 19 points while Jesse Reimink and Marcus Vanderheide each tallied 10.
