To apply, you must provide these items:

  1. Completed Common Application (online or paper version). If you complete a paper version of the Common Application, be sure to provide your guidance counselor with the 2011-12 School Report and ask him/her to forward it.
  2. $35 non-refundable application fee submitted via credit card through secure server (Visa, Mastercard, and Discover accepted); $50 non-refundable application fee submitted via check or money order for paper version
  3. Completed personal statement/essay (from the Common Application)
  4. Official high school transcript
  5. Test results from the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
  6. Official transcripts from any college(s) attended

International Students

International StudentsHope College encourages qualified international students to apply for admission. Admission is selective and is based on your secondary school record including courses, grades, recommendations, English language proficiency, and other information taken from the application. Hope College admits students without regard to religion, race, gender, disabilities, or national origin.

International applicants are required to provide the following:

  1. Completed Common Application (online or paper version)
  2. $35 non-refundable application fee ($50 for the paper version)
  3. Completed personal statement/essay (from the Common Application)
  4. Official transcripts from secondary school (plus post-secondary school for transfers)
  5. Declaration of Finances financial support statement
  6. SAT or ACT are not required, but are encouraged
  7. Evidence of Proficiency in English. This can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:
  • TOEFL (minimum 213 computer based or 79 Internet based with no sub test score less than 18). The code to send your results to Hope College is 1301.
  • IELTS (minimum 6.5).
  • Attendance at a Secondary School where the curriculum is taught in English. The TOEFL and/or SAT may still be required depending on the student's record and recommendations.

Transfer students

Hope College accepts applications from students attending other universities and colleges.
To be considered for admission, you must submit these items:

  1. Completed Common Application (online or paper version)
  2. Application fee ($35 online, $50 paper)
  3. High school transcript
  4. College transcript (all previous colleges)
  5. ACT or SAT result

  2. A letter of recommendation from an adult outside of your family
