  Home Schooled Preparation

Hope College encourages home schooled students to spend their college years as members of this supportive, intellectually stimulating campus community. Home schooled students have thrived at Hope and have added a wonderful dimension to the quality of life enjoyed at the College.

At Hope, we understand that one hallmark of home schooling is the absence of standardization. The learning setting, teaching/learning style, curriculum, and measure of achievement are tailored to each student. This arrangement can motivate students to be active, inquiring learners - the type of students Hope professors appreciate the most!

We desire to make decisions that are fair and in the best interest of all students applying for admission to Hope College. To apply for admission, the following items are required from home schooled students:

  1. A completed application form
  2. A $35 non-refundable application fee
  3. A copy of the your most recent transcript
  4. Official ACT or SAT score
  5. Homeschooled certification statement
  6. A graded paper from the final two years of home schooling (at least 3 pages)
  7. A list of up to 20 books read during the last two years of home schooling (non text books)
  8. A letter of recommendation from someone outside the family who is knowledgeable regarding the applicant's academic potential
