Application Instructions

High School (First Year) students:

Applicants are required to provide the following:

  1. Completed application (any are acceptable):
    1. Online application
    2. Download a paper copy (PDF)
    3. Common Application also accepted
  2. $35 non-refundable application fee submitted via credit card through secure server (Visa, Mastercard, and Discover accepted); $50 non-refundable application fee submitted via check or money order for paper version
  3. Completed personal statement/essay
  4. Official high school transcript
  5. Test results from the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
  6. Official transcripts from any college(s) attended
High School Students: Please submit the completed application form and a $35 application fee via credit card ($50 application fee for paper version via check or money order). Provide your counselor with the Counselor Recommendation Form and ask him/her to forward it along with the other required items to the address below. If test scores are not included on your transcript, have them forwarded by the appropriate testing agency.
Home Schooled Students:

In addition to the regular application materials, please also include the following:

  1. A paper from your final two years of home schooling (at least three pages)
  2. A list of up to 20 books read during your final two years of home schooling (non-textbooks)
  3. A letter of recommendation from an adult outside of your family
  4. Homeschooled certification statement

Transfer Students:

Hope College accepts applications from students attending other universities and colleges.

To be considered for admission the following items must be submitted:

1. Completed application
2. Application fee ($35 online, $50 paper)
3. High school transcript
4. College transcript (all previous colleges)
5. ACT or SAT result

Applications are submitted to the Admissions Committee as soon as all information has arrived and applicants can expect a decision shortly thereafter. The Admissions Committee may withhold a decision for further information; applicants will be notified of such a need and asked to submit the additional information. Transfer
applicants will be expected to submit final college transcripts before enrolling.
