Hope College Fly-In Weekend

February 27 - March 1, 2014

Registration for the spring event is now closed.

I seriously love everything about Hope. The people are all SO nice, there are so many activities to get involved in, the academic programs are rigorous, the campus is beautiful, the food is great, and the teachers are so talented.
— Esther, Fly-In participant from Lancaster, PA

Flying in

The Fly-in Weekend is from Thursday evening through Saturday morning, and is an outstanding mixture of academic life and the social scene at Hope College, with a combination of weekday and weekend opportunities.

Visiting students are paired with a Hope student host for the trip, and they will stay overnight with their host in one of Hope’s residential facilities both Thursday & Friday night. During the day on Friday, participants attend a Visit Day program including a tour, class visit, academic departmental sessions and may request a personal interview (optional) or other individual appointments.

Who should attend?

Each Fly-In Weekend is open to 40 high school seniors who have applied for admission and who are interested in learning more about opportunities available on our campus. This event is primarily for admitted seniors. Seniors who have not applied and wait-listed applicants should speak to their admissions representative before registering for the event or booking a flight. Students from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin are not eligible to participate in this event.

The cost

The activities during the trip will be completely FREE, including all meals, housing, program expenses, and transportation to and from the Grand Rapids Airport. Hope will even reimburse part of your flight costs (50% of the cost of your airfare up to a maximum $300 reimbursement). You will be responsible only for the remaining cost of your airline ticket (and any baggage fees, if necessary).

Planning your travel

You may purchase a ticket on your own through your local travel agent or on-line. (The Grand Rapids Airport code is GRR.) As you make your arrangements, please be aware that there will be multiple pick-up times from the Grand Rapids Airport on Thursday; ideal arrival times are between 3 PM and 6 PM. There will also be multiple airport trips on Saturday; ideal departure times are between 10 AM and 2 PM. If you need to arrive or depart outside of the scheduled times, please call the Admissions Office before booking your flight to make arrangements for airport pick-up or drop-off.

For students (and parents, too)

Every time we do this event there are a number of parents who come along. While not every activity of the weekend is geared toward them, parents are welcome to attend, and many other parents will be participating in the Visit Day events on Friday (8:30 AM-3:30 PM). We will provide parents with meal passes and transportation between Hope and the Grand Rapids airport, but parents are responsible for their own overnight accommodations, flight costs, and transportation around Holland.

There are two hotels within walking distance of campus (Haworth Inn and CityFlats Hotel), but both fill-up quickly. Parents are encouraged to use the Fly-In airport shuttle service, but if staying at other area hotels, they will need to make alternate local transportation arrangements.

Airfare reimbursement

After you have completed your visit to campus, the College will reimburse 50% of your airfare, up to a maximum reimbursement of $300. In order to be eligible, it is important to complete the following registration items two weeks prior to the event:
