Residential Life and Housing

Hope College Housing Card

Hope College recognizes the importance of having a compatible roommate to help get your freshman year off to a good start. Shortly after the May 1 deposit deadline (to reserve your place in the freshman class), each freshman is sent a "housing contract". After a significant number of contracts have been returned, members of the Student Development staff read each contract and manually match students based on hobbies, musical interests, study habits, lifestyle, etc... They also do their best to honor any specific requests. Common requests are:

I'd like to live with another "name your sport" player.
I'd like to room with someone whose faith is very important to them.
I'd like to live with someone from another state or country. (This is a good one because if you become best friends, you'll have a great place to visit!)
I'd like to live with "name of your friend," who will also be a Hope College Freshman.
(If you know who you want to room with, the Housing Office will honor your request provided you and your potential roommate request each other and promptly return your contracts.)

Most housing assignments are completed by mid-July. After the assignment is made, you and your roommate are sent each other’s name, address, and phone number so you can contact each other in advance.
