About Holland

Overview

Hope College is just two blocks from downtown Holland, a community of 58,000. Holland, Michigan is 170 miles (274 kilometers) from Chicago, 180 miles (290 kilometers) from Detroit and 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Grand Rapids, Michigan's second largest city. Holland is served by an interstate highway, a commercial bus line, and Amtrak rail service. There is an international airport within an hour's drive of campus.

Recreational opportunities abound in the area. Swimming, beautiful beaches, boating (the college has a sailing club), and great fishing area all readily available. Bike paths extend kilometers beyond the city limits. In the winter, excellent cross-country skiing is enjoyed in the immediate area, and downhill enthusiasts can find very good skiing one to four hours from Holland.

Because the college is located in a residential section of the city, students are able to enjoy a neighborhood setting with quick access to restaurants, shops, parks, and other downtown establishments. Holland is clean, friendly and safe.
