Application Instructions

These special instructions are to be followed if you are not a U.S. citizen and do not hold a
U.S. Alien registration (“green”) card.

International applicants are required to provide the following
1. Completed and signed application form
2. $35 non-refundable application fee
3. Completed personal statement/essays
4. Official transcripts from secondary school (plus post-secondary for transfers)
5. TOEFL results
6. Declaration of finances

Not required but highly recommended for scholarship selection:
1. Test results of the SAT 1
2. Recommendations

Special Instructions
High School Students: Please give the completed application form, essay, and $35 fee to your counselor. Ask
him/her to complete the appropriate section of the form and forward all required items to
the address listed below.
Merit-Based Scholarships
Academic: In most cases, international students must pay all their expenses. Hope College does not offer
need-based aid to international students. Hope does offer a limited number of academic scholarships.
Selection is based on strength of academic record, SAT scores, TOEFL, recommendations
and extra-curricular involvement. All documents required for a complete admission file must be
received on or before January 31 to assure consideration for an academic scholarship.
Arts: Scholarships are also awarded in the visual arts, dance, music, creative writing, and theatre.
Audition or submission of appropriate materials is required. Contact the appropriate department
chairperson for additional information.

Instructions: Hope College requires each international student to submit a declaration of finances form. Please complete the requested information and submit this directly to the Hope College Admissions Office, 69 East 10th Street, Holland, MI 49423, USA.

Hope College attempts to financially assist international students in their studies, however funds for scholarships are very limited.
