Performance Date: Monday, March 12, 2001
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Knickerbocker Theatre (86 East 8th Street)
Co-sponsored with the Visiting Writers Series, Behind the Broken Words brings Emmy award-winners Anthony Zerbe and Roscoe Lee Browne to the stage in a celebration of 20th-century poetry, drama, and comedy. Described as a "rhapsodic flight of words and images" by the New York Times, this performance remembers the words of William Butler Yeats, Richard Wright, e.e. cummings, Dylan Thomas, Seamus Heaney, and Jean Giraaudoux among others. "Poets take the feelings that we all have, and articulate them," says Zerbe. "When they are beautifully articulated, somehow that makes them accessible to everyone who's ever been in their presence."
